Hundreds of residents are set to have a Christmas to remember as it has been revealed one south Essex postcode has scooped a £17.3million prize.

The win for SS8 7 is the largest single prize ever to be landed in People’s Postcode Lottery history.

Postcode Lottery players in the winning postcode sector will share the multi-million-pound jackpot and have been told they have won at least £3,000 each.

The winning homes will find out exactly how much they’ve won at a special event at Castleview School on Saturday.

The full winning postcode will also be revealed this weekend, with players in one postcode landing the biggest cash prizes of around £400,000.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt will be on Canvey to present winners with the good news and a cheque of their own.

She said: “I’m sure the Canvey community will be buzzing with excitement right now and everyone will be eager to find out exactly how much they’ve won.

“I can’t wait to meet our winners and celebrate with them as they share our biggest ever prize – it’s going to be an incredible weekend and a great way to kick start the Christmas celebrations.”

How does the People's Postcode Lottery work?

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £12 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

The monthly prize sees players in a postcode sector share a multi-million-pound prize.

Every Saturday, £1 million will be shared by one postcode as part of the lottery’s Millionaire Street prize.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than £1.2 billion for thousands of charities and local good causes.

Charities in south Essex have also benefitted from money raised by Postcode Lottery players, with Southend Carers receiving £22,943 last year to help its work supporting unpaid carers.
