South Essex councils have published temporary changes to rubbish collection dates over Christmas and new year.

In Southend, rubbish due to be collected on Tuesday 26 December, Boxing Day, will be picked up on Wednesday 27 December instead. Kerbside collections will be shifted by a day until January 2, when the normal collection service will resume.

Garden waste collections in Basildon have stopped for six weeks, with no collections until Monday 15 January.

Meanwhile, all Basildon rubbish due to be collected on Monday 25 December, including both black bins and reusable bags, will be picked up on Wednesday 27 December. Rubbish due to be collected on Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27, and Thursday 28 December will be collected two days later. However, rubbish set for collection on Friday 29 December will not be picked up until Tuesday 2 January.

Castle Point Council has announced collections due on Christmas Day will be collected on December 23. Rubbish due for collection on Boxing Day will be collected on Wednesday 27. Collections from Wednesday 26 to Friday 29 December will be shifted by one day. Collections will also be one day late for residents on the country route.
