A man has been charged for driving with drink driving and his car was seized after being stopped in Rayleigh days before Christmas.

Police were patrolling the town at about 11.25pm on Friday when their attention was "drawn to" a black Ford Focus in Connaught Road, which officers then stopped.

A spokesman for Essex Police in the Rochford district said: "Subsequent checks showed the vehicle was being used without insurance and the driver smelt of alcohol, roadside breath test procedures showed a positive result, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under excess alcohol, whilst the vehicle was seized."

A 22-year-old man from South Ockendon has now been charged with driving a motor vehicle when his alcohol level was above the limit and using a vehicle on a road without a third-party insurance.

He is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates Court on Thursday, January 18.
