IT was confirmed this week that LuminoCity will not go ahead this year as Southend Council fights a budget black hole.

Council bosses confirmed the event will not happen this year as “no budget has been allocated for it”.

In a freedom of information request in February 2023, it was revealed that the council spent almost £175,000 to host the LuminoCity previously.

However, over the last two years, hundreds of thousands of visitors attended the festival.

LuminoCity saw a number of impressive light installations installed across the city.

Artwork was displayed in Southend High Street and the seafront and was free for visitors to attend.
