The Basildon branch of Dogs Trust has shared five dogs in need of a forever home this week.

Dotty

Echo:

Sweet natured Dotty is seeking her forever home. She can live with dog savvy children over the age of 11 years old who can give her space when she wants time alone. She would like a private secure garden to explore in and help with housetraining. Knowledge of the lurcher breed would be beneficial due to her prey drive.

Dotty must be the only dog in the home and cannot live with cats or small furries. Dotty can walk with calm dogs and will need ongoing dog socialisation in her new home as she can bark when nervous.

Luigi

Echo:

Whoever adopts Luigi will need to visit him in the centre multiple times to start building a relationship with him through walks, training and play. He needs a quiet adult only home with a maximum of two people and minimal visitors. Luigi must have a secure private area, separate room away from you and visitors, no other pets. Luigi will need to wear a muzzle and be kept on lead on walks as he can be react aggressively towards strangers and dogs in close proximity. He will also need to be muzzled for the vets as he finds being handled by a stranger overwhelming. He can be possessive around food, toys and beds so will need adopters that have experience with resource guarding.

Due to his shy nature, Luigi will need his new owners to respect his space when meeting him until they have gained his trust and will be happy to visit him until he is comfortable.

Cleo

Echo:

Cleo is a bundle of energy who is ready to find her fur-ever home. As sighthounds go, she is relatively small, but otherwise she's a typical young lurcher who's full of beans and loves a good zoomies. She enjoys being out and about exploring, so she'd like a family who'll take her for nice walks. Cleo would benefit from a secure private garden to sniff, relax and run around in. She is looking for an adult only home with no visiting children because she has displayed some grabbing and mouthing behaviour here due to kennel stress. Cleo will need a few meets to build a bond with her new owners before she can go home.

Once she has built a relationship with people she is super cuddly and sweet girl, it just takes her a bit of time to trust new people. Cleo must be the only pet in the home and her new owners will need to carry on with her dog socialisation. Like the majority of greyhounds and lurchers, Cleo will need to be muzzled and on lead in public, so she would benefit from regular visits to secure fields so that she gets an opportunity to run around and stretch her legs.

Odie

Echo:

Three-year-old Odie is a handsome boy who is looking for a single adopter, or potentially two people, with dog-owning experience. Like lots of Frenchies, Odie can be loud when he gets over-excited, so he will need understanding humans who are willing to work with him. Much of his stress comes from being in a kennel. Odie showed himself to be much more chilled when he had the chance to spend time in a foster home, so the trust is hopeful this will improve with time and patience. Odie enjoys walks, seeing other dogs when he is out and about, and has lots of doggy friends at the centre.

However, although he would not like to live with another dog since his toys are precious to him and he does not want to share them. As well as being protective over his toys, Odie has previously been protective of his humans too, so his new home will have to be relatively quiet with minimal to no visitors as he would like to keep all of the attention for himself.

Odie is on long term medication and will have to have regular vet visits which he is not keen on, although he is fully muzzle-trained to ensure his safety. He is a friendly lad who builds very strong bonds with his favourite humans, and potential adopters will need to make multiple visits to the centre to get to know him and his quirks better before taking him home.

The trust's training team will help his adopters learn how to put his harness and muzzle on during those visits, so they can be confident with it before he leaves. Odie can be energetic at times and absolutely loves to play, so a garden would be great a great outlet for that.

Bailey Boo

Echo:

Bailey Boo is a sweet, timid girl who is looking for an adult only home with a maximum of two people, who are experienced with nervous large breeds and have the time and patience to help her build her confidence. She can be uncertain around new people and environments and can be fearful.

However, Bailey Boo is a snuggle bug once she gets to know you and builds a bond. She is looking for owners who have a good understanding of large breeds and walks nicely on a lead. Bailey Boo must be the only dog in the home but can have calm walking buddies. She prefers smaller dogs.
