The family of a "cherished" grandad who died after a crash in Southend have paid tribute to him.

Officers were called to Woodgrange Drive in Southend at around 4.20pm on Wednesday, December 13 following a crash involving a car and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, who can now be named as 78-year-old Michael Howard, was taken to hospital where he sadly died on December 20.

His family have today paid tribute to him, saying: “Michael was a cherished partner, dad, grandad and friend. He had such a zest for life, and lived life to the full.

“He gained enjoyment from helping others, be it fitting a new bathroom, carrying out electronic repairs or installing an aerial on a roof. His skills knew no bounds.

“He will be sorely missed by his family, partner and friends. There is a void in our lives without him.”

A 58-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with this investigation and currently released on bail whilst enquiries continue.

Essex Police is continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anything or have any further information or dashcam footage to contact the force on 101, quoting incident number 726 of December 13.
