AN EVENT involving a spectacular Vulcan is returning to Southend this summer for an annual concert.

The Proms at the Vulcan event will be heading to Southend Airport on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

It is an event will see an orchestra perform a selection of popular and classical music alongside Vulcan XL426 at Southend Airport.

The Essex Concert Orchestra comprises some of county’s top musicians as well as students at prominent London and Essex music colleges, and music teachers.

Proms at the Vulcan, run by the Vulcan Restoration Trust, first took place in 2019 and was a huge success and has been each year since.

Jamie Keene, one of organisers for the Proms at the Vulcan, said: “We are delighted that we are able to host the event again inside hangar six at Southend Airport.

“The Essex Concert Orchestra are outstanding, and last year’s concert had a fantastic atmosphere inside the hanger with visitors waving union flags and signing along.

“Fundraising events like these are vitally important to raise money to maintain Avro Vulcan XL426 in ‘live’ fast taxing condition and to preserve the aircraft as part of Britain’s aviation heritage.

“XL426 is now the only Vulcan bomber in the world that is hangered and capable of moving under her own power.

“Thanks to fundraising events like this, hopefully the charity will be able to continue for years to come.”

The doors to the event will open at 5.30 pm and the orchestra will begin playing at 7.00 pm. The concert is scheduled to finish at 9.30 pm.

The seating area will be inside the Vulcan Restoration Trust hangar. No seating will be provided so visitors will need to bring their own chair or chairs.

Refreshments, including hot and cold food, will be on sale throughout the evening but guests are welcome to bring their own picnic. There will be a licensed bar too.

Proms at the Vulcan has sold out in in the last two years, and tickets are already on sale for 2024.

Tickets are £23.00 for adults and £14.00 for under-16s. Ticket purchasers will be sent full event details prior to the event.
