A space has been left open on Southend Airport's "destination wall" as a hint at "more to come" has been dropped following recent announcements.

The airport has revealed more routes could soon follow the announcement of flights to Milan as a new partnership has been formed with AeroItalia.

In a hint on Facebook, the transport hub shared a photo of its wall of destinations on offer, with a space left open for "more".

A spokesman said: "Room for more? If you read our press release for the announcement of flights to Milan, you'll have seen a certain mention of 'more routes to follow'.

"Did you spot it? And where would you like to fly next?

"Remember, it's the airline who ultimately decides where to fly and which airport to fly from, but it's always helpful for us to know where you want to go!

"We can take this information and demonstrate the demand for a particular route... We got there with Alicante, right?

"So it's safe to say there's more to come! But what will be the next destination on our wall?"

The airport's summer 2024 flying programme has continued to gain momentum in recent months as UK tour operator Mann Link Travel has also partnered with Southend Airport to offer flights to Sønderborg in Denmark this summer.

The one-off flight departing on August 8, 2024, offers a four-night short break holiday with a number of hotels with airport transfers included, and prices starting at £745 per person.

This has brought the number of destinations now available from the airport in 2024 to 12 – compared to three when easyJet returned in 2022 - with two airlines and three tour operators.
