THE victim of an alleged shooting in Shoebury has been accused of lying and treating the case like an episode of Netflix show Top Boy during a trial.

Adam Valli is standing trial at Basildon Crown Court accused of attempted murder but the victim’s evidence was criticised as the case was summed up today.

Valli, 22, of Derrifall Close, London, is accused of shooting the victim in the leg in a car park in Frobisher Way, Shoebury last May.

The incident began in east London before both Valli and the victim were allegedly involved in a car chase along the A127.

The court previously heard the alleged victim got out of one car and into Valli’s car before being driven to the scene.

The jury was asked “why he would do that” if his life was at threat.

As police arrived at the scene just after 2am and attended to the victim, he initially told officers he was ‘robbed by a white boy wearing a mask’ before naming Valli at 5pm in hospital.

Chris Paxton, mitigating for Valli, said: “We have some examples of the victim’s implausibility over the course of the trial.

“Members of the jury, when the victim gave evidence he told you Adam had threatened to shoot and kill him, yet he got out of his brother’s car freely to get into Adam’s car.

“There was no suggestion he was dragged or forced, that sounds ridiculous doesn’t it?”

Mr Paxton pointed out words the victim gave in evidence as “absurd” when addressing the jury.

He added: “We also heard the victim say, ‘If I’m going to die, I’m going to die high’ in reference to wanting to smoke marijuana before he was shot.

“This reveals the absurdity of his account, this isn’t Netflix with a show like Top Boy, this is real life.

“He’s saying this man had a gun and he has threatened to kill him, but he must ‘die high’.”

Allister Walker, prosecuting, gave his final submissions over February 8 and 9.

He said: “We suggest Mr Valli’s position in court not to give his account in evidence, whilst his right, was because he knew the questions that would’ve been asked of him were too difficult to answer.

“We suggest that this defendant, whilst not saying anything, has waited for the prosecution case and decided he’d say ‘what’s this nonsense about the white boy in the robbery, I’ll pounce on that.

“After all of the evidence was uncovered, Mr Valli had been named by the victim and there is no other suspect in this case.”
