A THUG described by a judge as being “hell bent” on carrying weapons has been jailed after being caught with a flick knife at a train station.

Jaheim Elliott, 22, was stopped by police and searched after raising suspicions at Basildon train station last year.

Police found a small knife and Elliott allegedly claimed he was “using it for work” and was not aware carrying the weapon was illegal.

However, during a sentencing hearing at Basildon Crown Court yesterday he was jailed and the court heard he had repeatedly been convicted for possessing weapons.

Elliott, of Chestnut Road, Vange, was sentenced to ten months in prison.

Judge Samantha Cohen addressed Elliott before sentencing.

She said: “Unfortunately Mr Elliott this is not the first time you’ve been found in possession of a knife.

“It seems to me that you are someone who is hell bent on carrying weapons in public.”

Elliot was previously convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in June 2017 following a stabbing and spent three years in a young offenders institution.

Two months into that sentence, Elliott was found in possession of a knife and handed a further three month detention and training order.

On January 19, 2019, Elliott was caught in public with a knife and made subject to another detention and training order for eight months.

In October 2021, Elliott was caught once again with a knife and sentenced to 5 months in prison in January 2022.

Alex Matthews, prosecuting, said: “Mr Elliot was stopped by an officer as he exited the station barriers and then searched, where he was found with a flick knife.

“He indicated he thought it was acceptable to have a knife of a certain length.

“The central issue underpinning this case in my submission is the defendant’s antecedent record.”

Angelina Nurse, mitigating for Elliott, insisted he had turned a corner in his life since moving to Basildon.

She said: “Mr Elliott has told me these offences arise from a very different time in his life as he was holding bladed articles on those occasions for his protection while living in London.

“He is now living in Essex with his previous offence in 2021, the last time he has lived in London.

“Since then he has moved himself out of the area and into Essex for some stability.”
