A LEIGH man is set to run 104 miles around Snowdonia to raise money for a mental health charity as he urged everyone to “look out for each other”.

Nicholas Mead, 39, from Leigh, will be running the Ultra Trail Snowdonia event which is a 104-mile race which involved 10,000 metres of vertical elevation.

He will be running it to raise funds for South East and Central Essex Mind (SECE), which is based in Southend.

SECE Mind is a charity that provides support to all those living with poor mental health across south Essex.

Nicholas chose to raise money for Mind after, like many others, he found it tough to ask for help when he was struggling.

He now wants to put himself out of his comfort zone to challenge his mindset and to encourage others to seek support if they are struggling.

Nicholas said: “I have tackled ten marathons before, but this 100-mile ultramarathon is a whole new ball game.

“It is my way of pushing personal boundaries and stepping out of my comfort zone.

“The idea is to openly share my journey, because like many, I found it tough to ask for help in the past.

“I wanted to take on a challenge to symbolise the mental health struggles many of us face, but by also highlighting the invaluable support available.

“It is important to me that we raise awareness and support for SECE Mind.

“Let’s look out for each other and also ourselves.”

Nick will be taking on the challenge on May 10, and it is expected to take him more than 30 hours.

He added: “Running 100 miles is a bit like facing life’s big challenges – overwhelming. However, I am going in with a positive mindset, breaking it down into manageable stages. I have always found being outdoors is a humbling experience that gives you a real sense of perspective.

“I am not thrilled about the sleep deprivation as I am likely to be out there for more than 30 hours, but on the upside, I am looking forward to replacing the weeks’ worth of calories I will burn.”
