DRIVERS have been warned of disruption as a south Essex road is set to shut for 21 days.

Vicarage Hill, in Benfleet, will close on April 15, 2024, for a total of 21 days.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while Cadent undertakes main replacement.

This comes after Essex Way, also in Benfleet, will be closed for 17 days from March 29.

Both closures are due to Cadent carrying out works in the road to replace old iron gas mains with "more durable" plastic pipes.

This is to ensure the firm continues to provide safe and reliable gas supplies to businesses and residents.

It is all part of a £3.4 million investment into making the ageing gas mains network around Castle Point more resilient and future ready.

Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, said: “Cadent are continuing with the next phase of their £3.4 million investment.

“The key to this is planning and letting residents know in good time. I made sure that Cadent sat down with the local Essex County Councillor around a table to plan the works and make sure every effort is made to keep traffic flowing around the Borough as much as possible while the major works take place.

“Please make sure you look at them and start planning ahead for any day-to-day journeys that may be effected now.”
