A NEW post office and fully stocked store has opened in a south Essex town which had been left without one - leaving residents "delighted".

The Precinct Post Office, in St John's Way, Corringham, has officially opened following the closure of its predecessor back in 2023.

The site, which was shut after its postmaster retired, had undergone a full redesign and now also offers a wide range of retail services.

It was opened to the public on Friday by Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, who cut a ribbon to officially declare the launch of the new shop.

Mr Metcalfe said: “It is great to have a Post Office in the town centre again at this very convenient location that residents and business are already familiar with.

"I want to congratulate Postmaster Mohasin Pathan on his big investment into Corringham."

Mr Pathan said residents are thrilled to once again have a post office on their doorstep.

They added: “My priority was to get The Precinct Post Office open as soon as possible.

"I knew that the last bank in town was to close, and Lloyds shut a week later.

“Here you can do business and personal banking on behalf of all the major high street banks.

“People are delighted that the branch has re-opened."
