A “warm and friendly” Leigh café offers somewhere “cosy” to catch up with friends over coffee and a slice of homemade cake.

Corner Club, on Leigh Broadway, has built up a loyal following over the last six years, which has seen it through the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

It has now been put up for sale on Rightmove for £475,000 as the owners "gauge interest", the Echo reported this week.

On a weekday afternoon, though, you are instead greeted with warm and friendly chatter as lunching ladies, revising students, and old friends catch up over a coffee and a slice of homemade cake.

The dark grey ceiling and tiled walls give off a fairly modern feel, accented by the black and white mosaic flooring and vintage wooden furniture. The rustic blend of young and old reflects the café’s broad customer demographic.

While otherwise plain, the walls are decorated with bold and colourful artworks created by Leigh artists, including Peter Knock. All the pieces are for sale.

I’m pretty easily pleased, so when I saw salmon and cream cheese bagels on the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted.

When it arrived after a brief wait, one bagel slice was generously topped with a heap of delicious smoked salmon, capers, fennel and whipped dill cream cheese. The other slice was topped with cream cheese and fresh, crunchy cucumber with red onion, plus more capers and fennel.

At £11, it’s not cheap, but it’s not unreasonable given the café’s prime location and surrounding cafés on Leigh Broadway.

Aside from its delicious food and specialist coffee, the friendly and accommodating team of baristas is what makes Corner Club such a cosy retreat from the hustle and bustle of Leigh Broadway.
