A TEENAGE victim has been reportedly “robbed at knifepoint” during a terrifying incident in Southend.

Officers with Southend’s Community Policing Team responded to an incident in Sutton Road, on Sunday at around 8pm.

This was after reports from a woman that her son, 15, had been robbed at knifepoint in the area.

Officers attended and, following enquiries, two suspects were arrested 8.30pm.

The victim’s bicycle was also later recovered.

Daniel Steward, 27, of no fixed address, has since been charged with robbery.

He appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court today, where he was remanded in custody until a further hearing at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday, April 9.

A 31-year-old man, from Southend, initially arrested on suspicion of robbery, will face no further action.

Det Con Michelle Rawson, of Southend Criminal Investigation Department, said no one should ever have to face an incident of this nature.

She added: “The victim in this case was a lone 15-year-old boy, who reported he was robbed at knifepoint in what was undoubtedly a terrifying incident for him.

“We have put support in place for him and will be ensuring his wellbeing as we continue to build a case.

“No-one should ever have to face an incident of this nature, and whilst they remain rare, we are never complacent in ensuring a robust response when they do occur.”
