A POP-UP charity shop set up to make use of a vacant former café is raising funds for two “fantastic” causes.

The shop is open daily at the Mill Arts and Events Centre Bellingham Lane, Rochford, from 9.30am.

It currently occupies the space left behind after a popular tearoom closed, and is now raising money for Lady McAdden Breast Cancer Trust and Supporting Carers and Families Together (SCAFT).

Julie Gooding, Rochford councillor responsible for leisure, said: “We are desperately hoping to get the café reopen to the public. In the meantime, councillors agree it would be great to use the vacant room for charity purposes.”

All councillors are set to have a turn at manning the shop, and proceeds will be split between the two charities.

Mrs Gooding added: “It’s a fantastic cause. I’ve had some great conversations with people whose lives have been saved by Lady McAdden.

“I’ve got the greatest respect for them and SCAFT’s young carers.”
