Police have launched a witness appeal after a reported attack and kidnapping in an Essex high street.

Officers were called with reports of a kidnap in Saffron Walden High Street at about 10.30am yesterday.

A member of the public reported seeing a man being attacked before he was taken into a vehicle and driven away.

Officers quickly identified a suspect, and located and stopped the vehicle used in the incident.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

He has been released on bail until May 20.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Our enquires are continuing, and we want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has dashcam footage that may assist our investigation.

"Please contact us quoting incident 265 of Monday March 11."
