DRIVERS are facing "gridlock" in Rochford this morning, amid road closures for gas and water main works in the town.
Urgent water main repairs have forced the closure of Sutton Road, a major route to the Purdeys Way Industrial Estate. Residents say the road is set to be closed "for at least a week" as repairs are carried out on a "collapsed sewer pipe".
Meanwhile, Cadent Gas has been carrying out assessment works on gas pipes at the Bell Junction so temporary traffic lights have been put in place to manage traffic. The traffic lights are expected to remain in place until tomorrow.
As a result, there are major queues on the A127 at Prince Avenue, along with Rochford Road, Victoria Avenue and Manners Way/A1159.
