Vue has revealed what its new Basildon town centre will have to offer as it has been officially awarded the lease by Basildon Council.

Vue is the largest privately owned cinema operator in Europe, and this latest addition will be its 93rd venue across the UK and Ireland and its second site in Essex alongside Thurrock's Lakeside cinema.

Basildon Council has given formal confirmation of the lease being awarded to Vue after the former operator, Empire Cinemas, entered administration in July last year before the site could open.

Now, Vue has confirmed the cinema will open later this year.

Once completed, it will contain ten screens, the largest of which will seat 300 people, with stadium-tiered, luxury leather seating alongside Vue’s recliner seats.

This will be combined with new laser digital projection systems, with two larger screens also equipped with Dolby ATMOS immersive sound systems.

Toby Bradon, general manager for Vue UK and Ireland, said: “We’re very happy to learn of the council’s decision, and to be bringing the big screen experience to Basildon.

“We look forward to welcoming our first Basildon customers later this year to enjoy the best in big screen content in luxury seating, state of the art laser projection and immersive Dolby ATMOS sound, delivering the ultimate in seat, screen and sound experience.”

The East Square development is also home to Nando’s, Kaspa’s Desserts and Orleto Lounge, offering a variety of choice for visitors.

Andrew Baggott, leader of Basildon Council said: “On Thursday we agreed a landmark deal that will see the new cinema open following a comprehensive competitive process. I look forward to welcoming Vue to Basildon to provide entertainment for all of our residents.

“This will kick start the economic regeneration of Basildon, providing entertainment and night time activity in the heart of our town centre.”
