A MAN has been left with a "serious" injury after a suspected attempted robbery on Southend seafront.

Emergency services descended on Marine Parade yesterday evening following reports an off-duty officer and members of the public had restrained two suspects after a suspected attempted robbery.

Three ambulance vehicles were sent to the scene and an air ambulance landed on City Beach.

One man was rushed to hospital with a serious injury, the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed.

Police arrested a 20-year-old man, from Southend, on suspicion of attempted robbery, assault and assaulting an emergency worker.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a disturbance in the area of Marine Parade, Southend, shortly before 5.30pm on Monday March 25. 

“It was reported two individuals had been restrained by an off-duty officer and members of the public after a suspected incident of attempted robbery.

“One person suffered an injury to his leg during the disturbance and was taken on to hospital for further treatment.

“Officers arrested a 20-year-old man, from Southend, on suspicion of attempted robbery, assault and assaulting an emergency worker.

“He remains in custody for questioning.”
