A SOUTHEND disability nightclub has thrown a huge party to celebrate its sixth birthday – featuring special guests, golden tickets and a red carpet for clubbers as they entered.
Freedom, a disability nightclub event held in Popworld Southend in Warrior Square, celebrated six years of entertaining clubbers and throwing parties on Wednesday night.
The special event was visited by the mayor of Southend, Stephen Habermel, who joined Popworld staff, Freedom regulars and managers of the event for the night of festivities.
The celebrations saw more than 200 people in attendance to help celebrate the milestone event.
Kathy Denton, 54, who organises the event, said: “The feeling was indescribable.
“People were chanting for Freedom. I must have had two dancers hanging off me all night and I have goosebumps thinking about how many people told me we had changed their lives and how we had given them a space to be themselves.
“We printed golden tickets, which provide free entrance to the Southend Soundbite festival, as well.
“The festival is for disabled people to perform, and people loved taking photos with the tickets.
“We had a red carpet and silk flames when the clubbers arrived to the event. We put up balloons everywhere and had a glowing number six on the dancefloor.
“Cake was also handed out, we had two massive birthday cakes cut up into pieces that we handed out and we also launched our new flyer.
“It was just an incredible night.”
