TWO people have been rushed to hospital after a crash which shut a major south Essex road for two hours today.

Police and paramedics were called to the A129 Rayleigh Road this morning, near the Woodmans Arms pub in Thundersely, after a crash involving two cars.

A road closure was put in place as emergency services arrived on the scene.

Two people have been taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully, their injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening, an Essex Police spokesman said.

"We were alerted to a collision involving two vehicles close to the junction with Rayleigh Road and Deerhurst, in Benfleet, shortly before 11am today, Friday March 29," the spokesman commented.

"We arrived alongside ambulance service colleagues and a road closure was put in place.

"Two people were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"No arrests have been made and our enquiries are ongoing."

The East of England Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
