A trendy bar with state-of-the-art golf simulators is set to open at the end of this month in an up-and-coming Southend street.

Bunker 19 is opening on the site of the former basement nightclub Bakers Bar in Southend’s Alexandra Street.

The street has seen a recent wave of businesses opening, including Twelve Brunch and Cocktails and Moonlight Bar and Restaurant.

The business, which will boast a fully stocked bar, craft ale on tap and two golf simulators is on track to open in 13 Alexandra Street by the end of April.

Owner, Dan Day, hopes his new business will help to make the street feel like the “Brighton Lanes” and is working with the other up-and-coming groups to form a “community district” to promote business and encourage a dynamic range of clientele.

Mr Day said: “We just want to work with other businesses to get this area going, to get good footfall and we see Alexandra Street as having great potential.

“We want all kinds of people in Bunker 19, we want to keep a relaxed vibe with plenty of tables and chairs and we are looking to have some street food in there, we are collaborating with Twelve to do that eventually.

“When we first started, this was going to be two golf simulators and a bar, that would be for just the golfers, but when we saw the space, we thought to make a bigger bar in there where people can relax.

“A craft beer sort of feel is what we are after, we are working with Leigh brewery, and they have just installed taps for three of their signature ales and one on a regular guest rotation.”

Mr Day added he wants the business to target every demographic from early morning commuters who can only spare an hour to younger people needing golf lessons on their simulators and even parties on weekends.

He said: “It is ambitious, but we like community and we want to promote it, a community district is a good way of looking at the street.

“Alexandra Street could have a really nice look and we want it lit up, to make it appealing to the great businesses down there.”
