DRIVERS are facing delays on a major south Essex route today as temporary traffic lights have been put in place amid emergency gas works.
The multi-way signals have been installed at the top of Bread and Cheese Hill, on the A13, with the key route reduced to one lane at its junction with Thundersley Grove.
Cadent has put the lights in place as it carries out emergency gas works in that stretch of the road.
The work is scheduled until April 16, one.network shows, however could be completed earlier.
Residents have taken to social media to report the "smell of gas" in the area.
AA traffic maps shows motorists are facing heavy traffic in the works area, on the A13 London Road around Kenneth Road.
Traffic is also affected by the nearby Bowers Road closure, which is causing slow traffic in Kents Hill Road, as Cadent is carrying out essential gas maintenance in the road to replace old iron gas mains with more durable plastic pipes.
