A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital with a serious injury after a crash which saw a major Essex road shut off for two hours.

Police were called to a serious crash on the slip road of the A130 near Wickford at 3pm yesterday.

The single vehicle crash involved a motorbike.

The rider, a woman in her 50s, was airlifted to hospital with a serious leg injury.

The road was closed while emergency service colleagues worked at the scene, including an Essex and Herts Air Ambulance which landed on the southbound carriageway at the Rettendon Turnpike.

An East of England Air Ambulance spokesman said: “We were called at approximately 3pm on Saturday with reports of a road traffic collision on the A130 near Wickford involving a motorbike.

“Two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. An adult female was transported by air to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further treatment.”

A long stretch of the road was closed from the A12 to Runwell Road in south Essex.

It was re-opened again at 5pm.
