TWO skips worth of rubbish have been dumped in a popular beauty spot with discarded bricks, construction waste and furniture blocking a trail.

Billericay residents have been left furious after spotting the rubbish, including a door and a bathtub, left in a trail of Wiggins Lane leaving the route blocked for dog walkers and posing a potential hazard for dogs.

Basildon Council has been made aware of the tip and condemned the dumpers, who “should expect a fixed penalty notice” as fly-tipping is “will not be tolerated.”

Billericay resident, Sue Woodland, was horrified to find the waste while on a scenic morning dog walk in the Tye Common area.

She said: “I walk this route quite often, I was walking the dog and I saw the massive pile of rubbish, it was absolutely terrible.

“It is lazy and just disgusting.

“It could be someone who has dumped their own trash, as many believe it to be given the contents or it could have been that someone paid a skip company to take their waste and without them knowing it ended up here.

“I put a post out about it because I wanted to see if someone had been ripped off, if this was my waste that had been put here, I would be furious.”

Billericay Tory councillor, Andrew Schrader, was “appalled by the rubbish” and has urged the council to investigate fully and fine the culprits.

He said: “It has been reported to officers, whom I trust shall investigate thoroughly and should any perpetrators be identified, they will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.”

A Basildon Council spokesman said: “Basildon Council has been made aware of dumped rubbish at this location and the surrounding area.

“Disposing of waste illegally will not be tolerated.

“You should expect a fixed penalty notice, and if it’s not paid, then you’ll be taken to court.

“We investigate every report of dumped rubbish and encourage residents to anonymously report every case of fly-tipping on our website - reporting dumped rubbish at Basildon.gov.uk.”
