A LEADING councillor has warned motorists to leave extra time during tomorrow morning's rush-hour because traffic lights at Sadlers Farm in Benfleet are still out which could cause serious delays.

It follows a serious road crash in the early hours of Saturday morning which left a car on its roof.

Conservative Essex county councillor, Andrew Sheldon, says contractors are unable to get temporary lights working at the major south Essex junction in time for tomorrow's rush-hour.

In an effort to warn motorists, Mr Sheldon took to Facebook urging drivers to leave more time for their journeys.

He said: "I have spent the past two days speaking to the contractors responsible for traffic light repairs and maintenance, via the Essex County Council Emergency Highways line.

"Apparently they will be unable to get temporary lights on the roundabout for tomorrow morning’s rush hour.

"There may therefore be some delays at the roundabout tomorrow, particularly for those travelling via Canvey Way.

"Please allow extra time for all journeys tomorrow via Sadlers Farm."

Mr Sheldon said he was still waiting for an explanation, adding: "It is completely unacceptable and I will follow it up. I expect the works to replace the permanent lights taken out to take place tomorrow but will confirm when I hear more in the morning."
