NEW food hygiene ratings have been awarded to eight south Essex establishments; the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

The scheme gives businesses a rating from five to zero, with five being hygiene standards are very good, and zero being urgent improvement is required.

Here are the establishments in south Essex that have been awarded a new hygiene rating:

Southend:

Franks at 109 - 111 Broadway, Leigh was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on April 5.

Millies at 138 - 140 Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on April 3.

Create98 at 98 Broadway, Leigh was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on April 2.

Popworld at 2 - 4 Warrior Square, Southend was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on November 29.

Basildon:

Cafe 89 at The Range, Northlands Pavement, Pitsea, Basildon was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on March 22.

The Breakfast Room at 3 The Walk, Billericay was handed a four-out-of-five rating after assessment on March 12.

Hollywood Bowl at Festival Leisure Park, Cranes Farm Road, Basildon was handed a four-out-of-five rating after assessment on January 15.

Subway at Whitmore Way Filling Station, Whitmore Way, Basildon was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on December 15.
