Residents are calling for traffic calming measures on what they have termed a 'dangerous road' following yet another crash - this time in the early hours.

The latest crash happened last Friday, (April 26) o Beverley Road, Heaton, when a car smashed into parked car, leading to the road being blocked.

The driver left the scene at the time.

A Vauxhall Corsa ploughed into a black Astra, with the crash causing extensive damage to both cars plus a Mercedes on the same road.

Police were called.

The cause of the crash is unknown but it has prompted residents once again to call for measures to make the road safer and slow drivers down, with neighbours saying it is a hotspot for speeding.

One resident said: “It’s an absolute joke this road.

“You see and hear it all the time.

“It’s a long stretch of road, so people just put their foot down and don’t seem to care or have any fear of what might happen if they go down here so fast.

“It’s only a matter of time where someone is killed if it carries on and the council need to do something about it.”

Another resident on the same road pointed out that nearby roads had measures such as speed bumps and something like that was required on Beverley Road as well.

They said: “Another road next to us has speed bumps to slow cars down, but this is the road where people are speeding the most.

“Just now I saw a car drive down quickly, they just think they can but there are cars parked either side so at any time they could hit one, and they have.

“There is also a school opposite us, so imagine the dangers at these times.”

Residents also said many school drop-offs and pick-ups would speed on the same road.

They said: “I just saw a car with a child in the seat and they were speeding down the road which means they could not stop in time if anything happened.

“Something needs to be done because clearly people don’t know how to drive down a road anymore.

“The accident that happened was unfortunate, but it happened at 1am, if it had been day time, someone could have been seriously hurt.”

Councillor for Queens Park and Central, Cllr Akhtar Zaman said: “Speeding is an issue in most parts of Bolton, and I have seen people driving at speed in these areas and it is senseless.

“We have got 20 mph speed limit introduced some years ago in that area.

“In terms of speed calming measures, at the end of the day it is about resources as funding is a problem.

“If you put speed bumps here, that problem will shift onto Queensgate and Mornington Road, and the local authority currently does not have the funding for that.

“So, it has to be education and the dangers of speeding and the damage it can cause.

“I do not know what can be done really.

“We will keep exploring with the Highways team to see what can be done in the future.”
