SAVING spaces such as family centres and libraries are one of the priorities of a non-aligned independent councillor standing in Southend.

Ahead of the election, Kay Mitchell, independent candidate for the Kursaal ward, vowed to ensure “residents voices are represented and heard” in council, with “views acted upon”.

She said her key priorities are: “Enabling restoration and strengthening of support services, alongside secure employment in these critical roles while saving adaptable spaces such as family centres and libraries.

“Improving housing conditions and reducing over development by introducing a fit for purpose Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMO) Southend City Policy, effective monitoring of our landlord licensing scheme, and challenging inappropriate planning applications.

“Work cross party to develop effective solutions for the increased demand on waste collection, fly tipping and recycling. Have a multi-agency approach to Anti-social Behaviour and root causes, facilitating safe spaces designed by and for young people.

“Strengthening youth services and aiming for children and young people to be fully reflected in decisions that affect them.

“Kursaal Ward in the heart of the city deserves representation free from party political restrictions.”
