A DAD fears his son “could have been blinded” after allegedly being shot with a BB gun at a Westcliff school.

The dad, who has asked to remain anonymous after a campaign of bullying against his 11-year-old son, claims the boy came home from Chase High School, in Prittlewell Chase, with a mark on his ear after being hit by the pellet.

He fears his son could have been seriously injured, and potentially blinded, if he hadn’t moved his head to avoid the BB gun pellet hitting him directly in the face.

According to the parent, the other child has been suspended and the school claims to have notified the police.

Chase High School has declined to comment despite being repeatedly contacted by the Echo.

The dad said: “My son was outside when the boy who shot him came up and said, ‘shut up or I will shoot you’. Someone else said ‘you don’t have a gun’, but then he pulled the BB gun out and aimed for my son’s head.

“He shot at him but luckily my son moved, so it hit him in the ear instead of his face. But it left a mark.

“My son went to a staff member, who notified senior staff.

“This happened at first break, so my son missed two lessons and then did his last lesson, before coming home.

“This is where he then told my wife what happened.

“I had no communication with the school until Monday morning. We were not contacted on Friday when it happened.

“But, if my son hadn’t moved, he could have been hit in the eye which could have left him blind.”

The dad only found out about the incident when his son returned home from school and was initially frustrated he was not called by senior staff immediately. However has now stated he is confident the incident is being dealt with appropriately.

He added: “I have been told the school have notified the police as it was all caught on CCTV.

“Although I am upset that me or my son’s mother were not contacted on the day of the incident, the school has apologised and are looking into why we weren’t contacted. I do feel they are doing their best to deal with this."

Essex Police has been contacted for comment by the Echo but are yet to respond.
