A SHOPWORKER has been threatened at knifepoint during an armed robbery on Canvey.

Essex Police are investigating a robbery which took place at a shop in High Street, Canvey, at around 7pm last night.

During the incident, a man entered the High Street shop and threatened a woman with a knife and ordered her to open the till. 

She did so and the man took the contents of the till, which was around £200.

Essex Police say officers were quickly on the scene and carried out a search of the area.

However, no suspect was located but a knife and part of till was located and secured and tracked by a dog unit. 

Officer says their enquiries are ongoing, including reviewing CCTV from the shop and of the nearby area. 

There will be a policing presence in the area throughout today.

Insp Mike Peterson said: “This was a distressing incident which we are taking extremely seriously and residents will notice a significant policing presence in the area today. 

“This is partly to ensure that we’re capturing all evidence available to us in order to pursue the targeted lines of enquiry which are emerging but also to reassure the community. 

“To our residents, if you have any concerns or if you have any information which you believe we should know, please get in touch as soon as you can.
