A “NUISANCE neighbour” from West Thurrock has been fined for holding late-night DJ and karaoke sessions.

James Brown, of St Clements Avenue, has been ordered to pay more than £1,200 for repeatedly disturbing his neighbours with late-night DJ and karaoke sessions.

The 53-year-old was found guilty for a second time at Basildon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 14, for continuing to breach two noise abatement notices issued by Thurrock Council.

Mr Brown, who failed to appear in court, was ordered to pay a £200 fine, £80 victim surcharge and £1,000 costs.

After receiving numerous complaints about late-night loud music, DJ’ing and karaoke sessions, the council’s Environmental Protection Team served noise abatement notices to Mr Brown.

This was under section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act in February 2022.

Recent court action was taken after Mr Brown continued to breach both orders.

Residents experiencing noise nuisance can report it via the Thurrock Council website.

Noise nuisance that residents can report include domestic noise such as amplified sound, loud music, loud DIY, and barking dogs, house and car alarms, loud industrial or commercial noise, such as air conditioning and fans, and entertainment noise, such as loud music from pubs and clubs.
