FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning after a gas cylinder blaze in Great Wakering.
Shoebury Fire Station say they attended an address in Great Wakering last night after reports of a faulty gas cylinder on fire.
Luckily the residents were able to extinguish the fire before crews arrived.
However, due to the cylinder still expelling its gasses, firefighters stayed with the homeowners for four hours while the cylinder emptied, dispersing the gasses with their hose reel.
Crews at the Shoebury Fire Station have since issued a warning to residents urging them to check their BBQ equipment before use.
A spokesman said: “As we near summertime, people will naturally want to have more BBQ’s.
“We advise that you check all your equipment thoroughly before use and make sure you are buying your cylinders from reputable sources.
“Most importantly as we near the hotter months, please ensure you have some form of means of extinguishing a fire should it get out of hand.
“Things could have been very different last night had the home owners not been prepared and had a garden hose to hand.”
