A FUNDRAISER is ready to take on his next daring challenge by attempting to scale the highest peak in north Africa for charity.

Lee Clark, from Southend, plans to climb the daunting Mount Toubkal in Morocco in his his latest bid to raise money for good causes.

The 43 year old, who is standing in the Southend East and Rochford seat at the General Election on July 4, discovered his passion for fundraising in 2007.

He has organised 240 events since then, raising more than £350,000 for 66 different charities.

Over the last decade he has taken on several challenges including climbing Mount Kilimanjaro last year.

Now, on August 1, he is set to take on the 4,100m high Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco with the aim of raising £10,000 for cancer charity – Against Breast Cancer.

Lee is taking on the challenge in honour of a colleague he lost to breast cancer in 2013 and has already begun ramping up his preparations for the two day climb.

He said: “I’ve been going to the gym four times a week, playing football every week and have cut out all fizzy drinks and chocolates. I like challenges that push me out of my comfort zone because I feel I need to do something that will make people feel justified for donating to the cause.

“Kilimanjaro destroyed me last year, so I am very scared about the climb. Part of the mountain is really steep but I know I can push through. It’s going to take a lot but the thought of my family at home and all the donations and support I have received will fuel me. Putting my body up this mountain could save someone’s life.”

Lee has added that he has no intention of stopping his fundraising adventures and is set take on the husky challenge in Sweden next year and a Sahara Desert challenge in 2026.

“I suffer with anxiety and mental health but challenges help me by giving me something to focus on,” he said.

“My end goal is to raise £1million for charity. The only reason I can do this is because of the support of my wife.”
