A man found with weapons and a drink driver are among the 14 residents or visitors in south Essex who have been sentenced at magistrates' courts in recent weeks.

AN armed man caught with four weapons in Southend has been handed a suspended sentence.

Jason Pieri, 37, was found with a locking flick knife, pepper spray, a baton and a folding pocket knife in a public place in Whitegate Road on June 17, 2021.

Pieri, of Hoppers Road, Palmers Green admitted the offences and was handed an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, at Willesden Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

He must also carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, pay prosecution costs of £85 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £156


MAGISTRATES’ handed a man who made abusive phone calls to two women a suspended sentence.

Lester Daniels, 40, of Southwalters, Canvey, made numerous abusive and threatening phone calls and texts to a woman between September 19 and November 25, Cannock Magistrates’ Court heard. He did the same to another woman between September 16 and September 25.

He admitted two counts of harassment and was handed a 27-week sentence, suspended for two years, on May 23, and a restraining order against one.


A DRINK driver has been banned from the roads for a year and fined more than £800.

Gabriel Petcu-Simionescu, of Mill Green Place, Pitsea, was driving a Silver Mercedes in Hampton Court Road, Kingston, when he was found with 49 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on Friday, May 17. The limit is 35.

The 37-year-old admitted the offence at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

He has now been banned from driving for one year and fined £877.

Petcu-Simionescu must also pay prosecution costs of £85 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £351.


A LEARNER driver caught behind the wheel without insurance covering his car has been hit with a fine.

Leonard Willsher, of Finches Chase, Basildon, was driving a Ford in Freemasons Road, Canning Town on Christmas Eve last year when he was found without insurance.

It was also discovered that he was the holder of a provisional licence while he was not displaying L plates and was driving unsupervised.

The offences were proven via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates' Court last Friday.

The 29-year-old has now been fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £264 and prosecution costs of £110.


A MOTORCYCLIST caught going at more than double the speed limit has been slapped with a large fine.

Richard Jack, of Surbiton Road, Southend, was riding a Suzuki bike in Commercial Road, Tower Hamlets, when he was found speeding at 44 miles per hour on September 12. The limit is 20.

The 46-year-old admitted the offence at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 28.

He has now been fined £877 and ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £351.

Jack must also pay £110 in prosecution costs and his driving record was endorsed with six points.

A FORD driver who jumped a red light has been ordered to pay more than £200.

Antony Wilkins, of Prince Avenue, Westcliff, was behind the wheel on Victoria Road in Port Talbot when he ignored a red light traffic signal on December 3, Cardiff Magistrates’ Court heard.

The 53-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure on Tuesday.

He has been handed a fine of £197, a surcharge to fund victim services of £78 and prosecution costs of £90.

His driving record was also endorsed with three penalty points.


A SPEEDING van driver caught at four miles per hour above the limit has been fined.

Darren Smith, of Elder Tree Road, Canvey, was behind the wheel of a Ford Transit on the A5201 in Clerkenwell when he was found going at 24 miles per hour on November 15. The limit is 20.

He admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Monday.

The 54-year-old was fined and handed three penalty points at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £16 and prosecution costs of £50.


AN ELDERLY driver who jumped a red light has been hit with a fine.

Raymond Kidd, of Lobelia Mews, Laindon, was driving a Honda Jazz in Thurloe Gardens, Romford, when he failed to comply with the red light traffic signal on November 6.

The 87-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Monday.

He was fined £40 and handed three points on his driving record at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court.

Kidd must also pay prosecution costs of £50 and a £16 surcharge.


A MOTORIST caught speeding at six miles per hour above the limit has been forced to pay out £462.

Hussain Zaidi, of Bentonwood, Thundersley, was found behind the wheel in Mayo Avenue, Bradford, speeding at 36 miles per hour on November 19, Bradford Magistrates’ Court heard. The limit is 30.

The 46-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure, was fined £266 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £106 and prosecution costs of £90. His driving record was also endorsed with three points.


A VAN driver caught speeding in a busy road has been slapped with a fine.

Ricky Lake, of Kenwood Road, Corringham, was behind the wheel of a Ford Transit in Chertsey Road, Twickenham, when he was recorded going at 49 miles per hour on November 9. The limit is 40.

The 39-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Monday.

He was handed a £153 fine and three penalty points at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court.


A DRIVER caught speeding at seven miles per hour above the limit has been banned from the roads.

Ahmed Otun, of Bramble Tye, Basildon, was behind the wheel of a Renault in Western Avenue, Cricklewood, when he was found going at 47 miles per hour on August 4. The limit is 40.

The 47-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure.

He appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 23, where he was banned from driving for six months.

Otun was also fined £204, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £82 and prosecution costs of £90.


A MOTORIST caught speeding on a major road has been ordered to pay more than £300 in a fine and costs.

Daniel White, of Grover Walk, Corringham, was driving an Audi A3 in North Kensington when he was recorded doing 35 miles per hour on the A40 on September 2.

The limit on that stretch of road is 30mph.

The 32-year-old admitted the speeding offence at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 21.

He has now been hit with a £150 fine, ordered to pay a £60 surcharge to fund victim services as well as prosecution costs of £110.

White’s driving record was endorsed with three points.

Stephen Smith, of Kursaal Way, Southend, was driving a Citroen Dispatch on the A1 in Holloway when he was found going at 25 miles per hour on December 4. The limit is 20.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

The 53-year-old was handed a £220 fine and three penalty points on his driving record.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £110.
