TWO people were evacuated and a road was blocked off by emergency services after a fire at a care home this morning.
Police, firefighters and ambulance crews were seen in Southchurch Road as the emergency services responded to reports of a blaze in Fernbrook Avenue.
Essex Fire and Rescue Service crews arrived and confirmed a care home in the road was filling with smoke.
Thankfully, the blaze was quickly extinguished by 9.25am and two people were evacuated.
A fire service spokesman said: "Firefighters were called to Fernbrook Avenue, Southend at 9.02am this morning. When crews arrived they confirmed it was a care home which was filling with smoke.
"The fire was extinguished by 9.25am and two people were evacuated. A fire investigation is being carried out to determine the cause."
Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
