All lanes have since been re-opened but traffic has yet to clear. One lane is also closed near Nevendon Junction due to electricity work which could be affecting this traffic.
Two sets of temporary traffic signals on the A129, one in Rayleigh High Street near Castle Road in and one at Asquith Avenue in Thundersley, is also causing heavy traffic, AA shows.
One lane is closed due to water main work on A13 London Road in Benfleet, with delays at Sadlers Farm and on the A13 in patches back to Fobbing.
