Police and immigration officials visited a south Essex traveller site this morning over reports of planning permission breaches and immigration offences.

Officers have been at the Hovefields traveller site, in Wickford, this morning supporting council planning officials alongside immigration officials from the Home Office.

Police say reports of planning permission breaches and immigration offences prompted the visit, and one 45-year-old man from Wickford was arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.

Essex Police officers regularly work with partner agencies such as Basildon Council and the Home Office to ensure everyone in the Basildon borough is being treated and employed fairly, following all planning legislation and abiding by licencing regulations.

Temporary Sergeant Steve Noble said: “Our work is well underway – last month our officers supported immigration and licencing colleagues at a restaurant in Eastmayne, and we’ll be out across the district this summer.”
