Firefighters are currently on the scene, tackling a blaze in a workshop in Benfleet.
Emergency services were called to Benfleet Road, following reports of a fire in a workshop that used to be an old chicken shed.
On arrival, crews confirmed the workshop was fully alight.
Residents have also taken to social media to describe seeing smoke as far as Tarpots.
Station manager Steve Osborne said: "It is a fire in a workshop which used to be an old chicken shed.
"The fire has now been surrounded and is under control.
"Crews will remain to monitor and extinguish hotspots."
A fire investigation will be carried out when the fire is extinguished.
Traffic in the area remains heavy, whilst firefighters remain on the scene.
