AN ambulance on a blue light response had its windscreen shattered after an "unknown object" was thrown from a bridge in Essex.

The East of England Ambulance Service vehicle was responding to an emergency call on Wednesday, August 21.

At around 3.30pm, as they drove along the A120 in Stansted on a blue light response, the driver reported that an unknown object was thrown from the B1256 bridge at the Dunmow West turn-off and struck the windscreen.

The object caused the windscreen to shatter, causing £500 worth of damage.

Detective Constable Clair Ward, of Braintree CID, said: “Throwing objects from a bridge is both reckless and dangerous and we are treating this incident as criminal damage to a vehicle endangering life.

“Thankfully, the crew weren’t harmed, but the consequences could have been very serious.

“This is completely unacceptable and we would ask for the public’s help.”
