A Laindon household has found some form of "grenade" in their garage whilst having a "family clear out".
The Basildon Community Policing Team was alerted to the situation earlier today after the concerned homeowners reported finding the suspicious item.
Upon arrival, officers quickly assessed the situation and followed standard procedures by contacting military experts for further assistance.
Military personnel soon arrived on the scene and confirmed that the item was indeed a military-grade smoke grenade.
Thankfully, the situation was quickly resolved as the grenade was safely removed from the premises and disposed of appropriately by the trained professionals.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Policing can be varied for officers and PCSOs.
"Today was no exception for the Basildon Community Policing Team after a Laindon household had a family clear out and found what appeared to be some form of grenade in the garage.
"Police were called and followed procedure by contacting the Military who attended and verified that the item was a military grade smoke grenade which was safely taken away and suitable disposed of."
No injuries or damage were reported as a result of the incident.
