A "mob of youths" were pictured attacking a man as he was on the ground in Southend High Street yesterday evening.
Police were called to reports of a fight around 7pm yesterday, with several people fighting close to McDonalds.
Officers attended the scene within 90 seconds, with one person stopped and searched and no injuries reported.
Witnesses claim that a dispute between a man and a youth got physical and resulted in a "gang of youths"' piling in to attack as police ran to the scene to break up the fight.
A police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a fight in Southend High Street at about 7pm on Saturday 8 September.
“It was reported that several people were fighting close to McDonalds.
“Officers attended the scene within 90 seconds of the call. As part of their enquiries, one person was stopped and searched.
“No injuries were reported to officers at the scene.”
