Southend Council is in discussions with "national operators" over the former Wilko space in the Victoria Shopping Centre.
Wilko, in Southend's Victoria Shopping Centre, closed in October 2023 after 28 years of business.
The shop was shut for good after administrator PwC confirmed at the end of September that all 111 Wilko stores across the nation would be closing.
The large unit has remained vacant since.
However, Southend Council revealed today that they are currently in "discussions with national operators".
This comes after unconfirmed reports on social media of B&M potentially looking at the site.
However, Southend Council said there is "nothing they can confirm at this time", whilst B&M did not respond to the Echo.
A spokesman for the council added: "We are currently in discussions with national operators about the former Wilko space, but there's nothing we can confirm at this time"
