A Westcliff hair salon has been broken into – resulting in its front door being seriously damaged and the cash till being 'grabbed'.
Faith Hair and Beauty Salon, in Bridgwater Drive, has reported on social media this morning at 9.31am that a burglary occurred at its premises at some point last night or in the early hours of this morning.
The incident was then reported to the force just after 3am today.
Essex Police cordoned off the site this morning whilst officers begin to investigate the incident.
In the Facebook post, the hair salon bosses report that “two men decided to break in and grab the till out of the salon”.
It also said: “At the moment we are not allowed to open the salon.
“If you want to book an appointment, please call us on 01702 342584.”
Images taken this morning show the entrance to the salon completely smashed and a cash register can be seen on the floor.
A passerby who wishes to be known as Peter B, is a resident of the nearby area and lives near Leigh Fire Station in Mountdale Gardens.
Peter was on his way to Tesco this morning before 10am when he saw the police cordon outside Faith Hair and Beauty Salon.
He said: “I saw the window was smashed; forensics wasn’t there at the time yet.
“People were standing and looking.
“It was just disgusting
“It is a very residential area, but it is very quiet.
“With it being a hairdresser, I am surprised if they would have kept any money in the till overnight.
“It is going to cost them a lot of money for repairs I would imagine.”
The Echo contacted Faith Hair and Beauty Salon who did not have the time to speak at the moment as they are preparing the business for reopening.
A spokesman did say “what they have done is pointless” when referring to the incident.
The hair salon is hoping to reopen at 12 noon today.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We’re investigating a burglary in Bridgewater Drive, Westcliff, which was reported to us shortly after 3am this morning, Saturday 12 October.
