A SEARCH has been launched for a potential supplier to carry out “responsive” repairs on the iconic Southend Pier and various council-owned buildings as part of a contract worth up to £2.7million.
This six-year contract with Southend Council is designed to address essential repairs as they arise, without committing to specific projects up front.
The value of the contract is between £2.16m and £2.7m, with it starting from April 2025 and running through to March 2031.
Paul Collins, councillor responsible for finance, assets, and investments, said: “This six-year contract covers essential repairs across our corporate estate without guaranteeing specific projects, allowing us to address issues as they arise.
“It includes urgent callouts for building safety and maintenance, along with decking repairs on Southend Pier, from single board fixes to larger restorations.
“Our goal is to keep our assets safe, functional, and well-maintained.”
This procurement has been divided into two lots, one for the appointment of an experienced and qualified responsive repair contractor who can deliver the provision of responsive repairs, maintenance and remedial works to the council’s corporate buildings.
The other is for a contractor to deliver the provision of the coordination of supply, repairs and installations of decking to Southend Pier.
The responsive nature of the contract means it will handle everything from urgent callouts for building safety to the replacement of individual decking boards on the pier, as well as larger-scale restorations.
Although no specific works are guaranteed, the council aims to ensure the safety and functionality of its assets, with an emphasis on keeping the historic pier in good condition.
This move aligns with the council’s commitment to “preserving” its key assets and infrastructure for both residents and visitors over the coming years.
