A PLANE flying to Edinburgh from Essex was unable to land due to Storm Éowyn causing the plane to return back to where it took off.
Ryanair flight RK596 from Stansted Airport which was intended to land at Edinburgh airport, reached the capital but was unable to land.
The plane circled over the borders before it returned to Stansted.
The Boeing 737 jet departed from Stansted at 8.35am and touched down at the same airport two hours and 44 minutes later at 11.19am.
Ryanair has now cancelled its 1.55pm departure from Stansted to Edinburgh.
One in five flights from airports across the UK and Ireland have been cancelled today as Storm Eowyn caused disruption at several major airports.
Aviation analytics company Cirium said at least 1,070 flights scheduled to operate to, from or between the countries’ airports were axed.
That is equivalent to 20 per cent of all flights, affecting around 150,000 passengers.
Weather warnings are in force across the country today, with a yellow weather warning for wind in place in south Essex from 5am until 3pm as the fifth storm of the season is expected to bring winds of up to 60mph to the county.
