A NUISANCE council tenant has been banned from having visitors after persistent anti-social behaviour reports led to a partial closure order being issued.

The home, in the Felmores area, was the subject of numerous complaints from neighbours about ongoing disturbances, including loud shouting, suspected drug activity and fire hazards.

Basildon Council’s anti-social behaviour team took action and, on Friday, Southend Magistrates’ Court granted the order, which allows only the named tenant to remain at the address and prohibits others from entering.

Kerry Smith, councillor for law, order and enforcement, said: "Everyone deserves to feel safe and comfortable in their own home.

"It’s unacceptable for a few individuals to create an environment that makes life unliveable for others.

"This closure order ensures only the tenant may access the property, which will help prevent further anti-social behaviour and restore peace to the neighbourhood."

Mr Smith warned that anyone found breaching the order could be arrested, and the tenant themselves may face further legal action, including possible loss of tenancy.

He said the order is a "firm step towards protecting the local community" and a clear statement that anti-social behaviour "will not be tolerated."
