POLICE have warned riders their e-scooters will be seized and will not be returned if they are ridden illegally in the city centre as they continue their crackdown.
Officers have continued to seize e-scooters and illegal e-bikes being ridden in the city in recent weeks as they target road-related anti-social behaviour.
As part of its ongoing work to address the illegal use of privately owned e-scooters in Southend, police are continuing to focus patrols in the city centre.
"It is illegal to use e-scooters on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres," a spokesman for Essex Police in Southend shared.
"Sadly, people are continuing to use them in public places, and this is increasingly causing safety concerns for the local community.
"It is our responsibility to make sure our community is safe and this issue is raised at every meeting and event we attend.
"If officers see someone using a privately owned e-scooter in Southend, the scooter will be seized and not returned.
"You could also be issued a fine and penalty points on your driving licence if you are breaching traffic laws.
"We will be focusing our attention on e-bikes too and making sure they are being used in line with the Highway Code."
