AN ESSEX parish councillor has been revealed as a Big Brother contestant on ITV2.

First aired in 2000, ITV's Big Brother reality show follows a group of people as they live in isolation from the world in the 'Big Brother' house.

Under constant surveillance, the housemates are given various tasks and twists to challenge and surprise them.

The show made its return to TV screens on Sunday, revealing a new cast of contestants.

Among these new faces is Finchingfield parish councillor, George Gilbert.

The 23-year-old lives in the Essex village, close to Halstead and Braintree, and advocates for the area's community.

Whilst on the show, George plans to "contest people's views on things", and said he will "definitely be exercising that element of critical thinking."

The young councillor described himself as "quite good at cracking a joke" and aims to become "the life and soul of the party."

Regarding his strategy, George said: "I think just be yourself because if the cameras are on 24/7 there's no chance you can actually continue with some sort of persona you've created, so be yourself."

He admitted that he might get nominated for "ruffling feathers", and mentioned that he is the youngest in his council.

If he wins, George plans to use his prize money to make his parents "mortgage free".
